Trigiene and Dentaid Partnership: Giving Dental Handpieces a Second Life to Support those left behind in the healthcare system.
A New Partnership Supporting Dental Care
At Trigiene, we believe dental equipment should deliver value for as long as possible, not just for dental practices, but for patients everywhere.
That’s why we’re proud to announce a new charitable partnership with Dentaid, a UK-based dental charity that provides equipment, training, and support to dental professionals working in disadvantaged communities.
Dentaid’s fleet of mobile dental units travels across the country to offer outreach services in the places people feel safe and most supported. Each is staffed by a volunteer dentist and dental nurse who provide treatment and education.
Through this initiative, Trigiene and its customers will work together to donate repairable dental handpieces that can help dentists deliver essential care.
What Happens When a Dental Handpiece Repair Is Declined?
Dental practices regularly send handpieces to Trigiene for inspection and repair. In some cases, a practice may decide not to proceed with the repair, often due to cost considerations or equipment replacement plans.
However, many of these handpieces are still technically repairable and capable of providing years of additional service.
Instead of these instruments going to waste, Trigiene now offers customers the option to donate declined repair handpieces to Dentaid.
This simple decision allows equipment that would otherwise be discarded to support dental professionals delivering vital care in resource-limited environments.
How the Donation Process Works
Our new initiative makes donating dental equipment simple and straightforward for practices.
When a repair is declined:
1️⃣ Trigiene assesses the handpiece to confirm it can be economically repaired
2️⃣ The customer is offered the option to donate the equipment to Dentaid
3️⃣ Trigiene repairs and prepares the handpiece where viable
4️⃣ The equipment is donated to Dentaid for use in their fleet of mobile dental units across the UK
This collaborative approach ensures that equipment which still has clinical value can continue to be used to help patients in need.
A Collaborative Effort Across the Dental Community
This initiative is built on a three-way partnership between:
- Trigene Limited – providing specialist dental handpiece repair and refurbishment
- Dentaid – distributing equipment to dentists working in underserved communities
- Dental practices – enabling the donation by choosing to support the programme
By working together, we can transform unused equipment into valuable tools that help dentists provide treatment where resources are limited.
Dentaid’s Work
Dentaid’s mission is to alleviate dental pain and improve oral health for people who lack access to regular dental services.
Its work focuses on reaching those who are often left behind by traditional healthcare system, including people experiencing homelessness, survivors of abuse, vulnerable women, families in poverty, fishing communities, refugees, cancer patients, people recovering from addiction and others experiencing health inequalities.
By operating in familiar and trusted spaces – like soup kitchens, hostels and community centres, Dentaid aims to remove many of the barriers that prevent people from accessing dental care, allowing them to live lives free of toothache and other oral health issues. They work closely with local charities and support organisations to ensure outreach clinics are able to deliver essential dental treatment and oral health advice directly to those who need it most.
In many cases, one functioning handpiece can make a difference to hundreds of patients.
Reducing Waste Through Dental Equipment Recycling ♻️
Alongside the humanitarian benefits, this initiative also supports a more sustainable approach to dental equipment management.
By donating repairable handpieces rather than discarding them, practices help:
- Reduce unnecessary clinical equipment waste
- Extend the lifespan of dental instruments
- Support sustainable access to dental care at local community level.
This programme demonstrates how responsible equipment reuse can benefit both the environment and communities in need.
How Dental Practices Can Get Involved
If your practice sends a handpiece to Trigiene for repair and decides not to proceed with the repair, simply choose to donate the equipment through our Dentaid partnership.
Trigiene will handle the process from there, ensuring the handpiece is repaired where viable and prepared for charitable use.
It’s a simple decision that can make a meaningful difference.
Turning Declined Repairs into Life-Changing Care
Through this collaboration between Trigiene, Dentaid, and the dental practices we support, equipment that might otherwise go unused can help deliver dental care to patients who need it most.
